Boekenhoutskloof was founded in 1776. The name of the farm, located in the furthest corner of the beautiful Franschhoek valley, means "Boekenhout Gorge" - Boekenhout is a native Cape beech that is highly prized for furniture making. In 1993 the farm and estate was purchased and restored and a programme of planting new vineyards was established.
